Titanium is now playing a major role in the body jewelry market. Because of its' three main characteristics, titanium is now challenging stainless steel as the most favored metal in the body piercing jewelry industry. Titanium is only half the weight of steel and can be anodized, offering a wide selection of surface colors. It does not react to any body liquid attacks whatsoever; it poses neither allergic reactions, nor kin irritations of any kind. Due to its lightness it is very beneficial for initial piercing as it accelerates the healing process (your piercing is not pulled by the weight of your jewelry). Titanium is also known for its durability.
Titanium comes in alloys, and depending on what else is used in the alloy they are classified to grades. So-called commercial pure titanium contains just traces of other elements. Not all grades of titanium and its' alloys are suitable for invasive body jewelry applications. We use grade 5 surgical titanium for all new titanium body jewelry products. This is a grade recognized by standard societies world wide for medical devices. It consists of 90% titanium (no nickel) and is three times stronger than commercial pure titanium. It will remain in its initial form for a lifetime.
